I was just the victim of fraud. I recieved a letter stating it was from Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commision(OLGC) and that I had won $370,000. But first I needed to cash the enclosed check and send it to them via Western Union to pay surcharges and fees. I did this and then found out this was a scam. I have reported this to OLGC as well as the Canadian police. I have since been threatened with my life and my families life to leave this alone. I now have to pay my bank back for the check I cashed totaling $4000.00.

They are now doing it through the mail this year. We have put a link on our forums at www.ZolaEnterprises.com and are doing an article on this to warn people. It is very spooky that so many were not aware it was a scam. I got a few emails asking if it was real so I decided to post a scam alert off the main page. I got a letter from the BRITISH GAMING COMMISION WINNING CERTIFICATE. ON 8/4/06 I WAS LED TO BELIEVE THAT I HAD BEEN AWARDED $85,500.00 - $5,301.00 FOR THE SPONSORS COMMISION. I BROUGHT THE CHECK FOR THE AMOUNT OF $2994.57 I WENT TO MY BANK AND HAD BEEN TOLD THAT THE CHECK WAS RETURNED. I'M GETTING A LAWYER TO FIND OUT MORE ON HOW TO AVOID THIS HAPPENING TO ANYBODY ELSE. I received notification that I had won a consolation prize in the powerball international lottery of 1,500,000 us dollars first then 1,500,000 pounds. Is this just a scam I told them I would not send any money nor would I give them any banking information. The referred me to an attorney a Barrister Parker Chambers. Said I could go thru him to get my winnings if I couldn't go to the uk to pick them up. Is this another scam???? I wish it isn't but I got a gut feeling that yep it is. Please help

I got one of those letters - you are entitled to 85000.00 from Evergree international lotto corp canada as a winner of the north american sweepstakes lottery - they sent me a check for 3200.00 - I figured this was a scam but called the number on the letter. Talked to a foreigner of course. He said to cash the check at the bank then call them back and set up wire transfer of 2500 to them for process fees via western union and they would send me back 81000.00 the same way within 72 hours. Yea right? My question is - what happens if you cash the check received making sure the funds are available first. And keep the 3200.00 initial check?
Any thoughts?

My wife recieved a letter stating that she had won 60,000 US Dollars from an International Promotions Program.
It's not asking for account numbers or anything like that. It says that she can't pay processing fees out of pocket, it can only come from the prize amount. It states to contact someone, and gives their phone number in order to claim the prize.
She tried calling the number, and only got a general voicemail system. The number is in Canada.
I know this has got to be a scam, but what would someone gain from this?
