i have received a check for 3,600.00 from gateway finanical .telling me to take 2,800.00 of this money is to be paid by money gram purpose of this cheque is to be paid to non resident government service tax on winnings. i do not know what to do about this sounds like a scam.

REMEMBER: One other thing is that you do have to pay taxes. They are SUPPOSED to come out of your winnings, at least in the U.S. You win, let's say, powerball, 55 Million. Your check will be 55 Million LESS the taxes. You do NOT pay the taxes before you receive the check, they are deducted FROM the check!
If they are telling you to pay the taxes before you get the check, Call them thieves and rip up any check they sent.
Don't fall for this stuff.

Folks, remember the old saying "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
Today, my wife received such a notice, with a check for nearly 3000. Having heard of scams like this, I checked out all the companies involved. There was no site for one. The bank, routing number, issuer: All real names. But I was suspicious.
I contacted a lawyer, who verified my belief: SCAM.
If you receive such a letter/check--write "void" on it, and toss it. Better yet, take it to your law enforcement officials, or postal inspector. This is MAIL FRAUD, and I'd like to get these folks behind bars.
Use your brain, each of you. You DO have one!

i recieved a letter stating that i would be receiving a check for 4,975 us dollars which will be deducted from my winnings of $250,000.00 the check that i will be recieving will be used as money to pay for taxes on my winnings.i see that i am not alone in this matter. what can be done about this scam? the claims agent that i am suppose to get a hold of is mr. charlies moore.

4. I look at the check, it is a real check, but I am not sure whose has the real account and but the payer is Oneonta Daily Star, PO Box 25, Oneonta, New York 13820. Oneonta is very close to the city I was raised and I knew this is a newspaper. I called the Newspaper and they said that another lady had called inquiring about the same type of check. She said it was a scam and to please sent the check to her attention.

How long does it take for the check to bounce? we put one in but now unfortunately i think it was all fraud! im so sad because i really wished something good would happen with all the problems my family is suffering financially.
