Hello!
This is not new. A few years ago (I think about 1998), there was another alert about this scam in the TV. Normally these are of the kind of "Urban legend", and many times the key intention is to scare people, as those about the "Kidney Thieves". In that occasion, it seems some people got a huge money, but one of them went to police with the message, asking for protection.
