The Manitowoc Police Department today received information from First National Bank in Manitowoc that several of their customers were receiving e-mails requests from scam artists requesting personal banking information.

Officials from First National Bank said the e-mails are being sent from a Web site in Vietnam and China, according to Lt. Paul Schermetzler.

The e-mail asks the victim for personal information, telling the victim they will receive $50 for participating in the questionnaire, Schermetzler said. The scam is known as phishing.

First National Bank and the Manitowoc Police Department is reminding individuals that bank officials will never ask customers for their personal banking information on the Internet or over the phone.
