Beware new Internet scam

Date: May 04, 2007

Be careful, the IRS is warning taxpayers about an Internet scam that sends out fake emails. They direct people to a web link that requests personal and financial information, such as social security, bank account, and credit card numbers.

They appear to be from the IRS; however, officials say the IRS does not use email to initiate contact with taxpayers, and does not ask people for detailed personal and financial information.

Anyone who gets an email, they believe to be a scam, like this, can forward it to the IRS. That email address is [email protected] or you can call 1-800-366-4484.
