Tips of online protection

Date: November 02, 2007

Now that all accounts can be accessed using the same username and password it is important that your password be strong enough so that it can't be cracked. Here are a few tips you can use to create a new password:

•If you have a favorite word that you like to use, try adding numbers, characters and capital letters. Your password will still be easy to remember but harder for a hacker to crack.

•Pass phrases also make good passwords. For example, "Goucher's Mascot is Mortimer the Gopher" could be a phrase turned into a password like "G'sm!Mtg."

•Make the password at least 8 characters long. The longer the password the more difficult it is to crack.

•Reset it to something other than your student ID number.
