Users of IT support services for their businesses may need to seek protection against the use of web advertising to infect computers with malware, an expert has said.

Writing for cpatechnologyadvisor.com, security advisor John Anderson warned that cyber criminals were using infected HTML adverts online to spread viruses, by using devices like an automated system to create a large number of clicks on a click-through advert, thus fraudulently generating money.

Other methods include infected automated e-mails.

The ability of some anti-virus software available to users to combat cybercrime has been questioned by a new report.

Nanoscan, an online tool which scans computers for viruses, found last week that PCs in the UK have the lowest malware infection rate in Europe, PC World reports.
