Microsoft to fight phishing with a new toolbar for Internet Explorer

Date: August 31, 2005
Source: sda-asia.com

Microsoft has revealed that anti-phishing features would be made available to Internet Explorer 6 users through an update to the company's MSN Toolbar. The feature is also slated to appear in the final release of Internet Explorer 7 for Windows Vista and XP Service Pack 2.

The new phishing filter would require Windows XP SP2 in order to work, and will be made available shortly as a beta. The filter is just one of several plug-ins that Microsoft says will allow users to add functionality to IE6 over the coming months. Currently, the only available plug-in is one to add weather capabilities to the toolbar.
