"We are doing everything we can to keep bad guys off the site."

Hi Garreth Griffith

Sorry i can not agree with this and not only was i scammed myself out of £4k but i have also taken up the battle for other eBay members only to find eBay does nothing to close the scammers accounts.

Garreth please see eBuster co uk and look at the China gold scam and then say we are doing all we can to stop these bad people.

i reported a fake loging page at about.ebay.com to eBay and yet the page is stil up and running and i did not get a reply to my message i sent eBay.

"special tranning" for 2000 police officers by eBay staff resulted last year in a mere 70 convictions for on-line fraud so something is not working.

Would anyone care to say who these eBay members are ?

a12940989abc398d027d3bd616c912a7608460625 a131e7f7a26f5b38852c8334a3cf6959119317436 a198226be3ee00d08997111ded017d5888317211 a1a466bf12f43a38a2500eca6b7b05e6161287044

And yes eBay now has 10,000's of these GUID names but it's been too much to answer why.

Did you know that if you type the word 'Feedback' into the eBay search bar then you can buy as much feedback as you will ever need for £0.01 a go ?

What ebay does seem to be doing is working in cahoot with both the police and trading standards to brush crime under the carpet and it is my public duty to expose this before more people become £4,000 worse off like me.

Garreth speak to your staff, pull out the messages i have sent and ask them why in all but one case nothing is has been done.

Can the police have you kicked off just for the hell of it? I was! I dont know if its legal or a violation of my rights! Is this discrimmintion?

You see one year ago our pawn shop was under investigation for possible stolen property. Problem is, we were not knowingly buying or selling any stolen property.

The allegations against us were unjust and completely false. We run a legitamite business, we sold cars on ebay and had a tax I.D. and dealership license. Within two weeks into the investigation our seller account was suspended.

For the past year the police have harrassed us, tried to pay people to bring stolen property into our store, and even violated their own policies and procedures in an attempt to prove us dirty.

Now a year later still no charges, no indictments, no proof of wrong doing, yet we are now about to go into our second year of permanent suspension. Just because we were under investigation!

How can this be legal?

I might add that I am not white, I have never been in trouble with the law, I never violated Ebay Policy, I had over 4,000 postitive feedbacks along with the Ebay Trust and Safety seal awarded to me two days before I was suspended. Of course since I was not charged I have no legal right to supeona Ebay, or have discovery from the Police dept.

Hi guys,

My name is Janos.

I just payed 650 USD for a HP laptop, which seemed to be a great deal.
I was checking the person on Ebay, the comments(97%) and payed in the amount above via Western Union.
Since then, there is no feedback.
This guy was a crook!!!
I do not think I will ever buy anything on Internet.
Anyway, the guy's name is Richard Chivers, 55 London Broadway Centre W55YJ
But this is all just fake!
If you happen to see him/her on Ebay, watch out!!!

Hi,
I am the person who you reported on your site as committing fraud and deception on Ebay.
I would like to take the opportunity to add a few comments.
Firstly, I bought the bag in question from an Ebay member who had excellent feedback on Ebay for selling over 70 authentic Louis Vuitton handbags-in particular 7 Louis Vuitton Papillon bags. When I bought the bag it was purchased as an authentic Louis Vuitton Papillon and consequently sold as such. On my auction site listing I wrote that a copy of the orginal receipt would be produced if requested. At no time did I say I would supply the orginal receipt! The person I sold it to left good feedback on Ebay and emailed me to let me know that she was happy with the purchase after having the bag for 10 hours . She then emailed me a couple of days later and told me it was a fake after she took it to be examined by LV Bond Street store(this was a lie that she admitted in court). She also asked me to knowingly sell on a fake item to the next bidder and claim that her cheque had bounced. I would not knowingly sell a fake bag not even for my accuser.
Perhaps Ebay is transparent but its users are not. In fact my account with Ebay is still open and operational with a positive feedback of 10. I had only registered on Ebay 2 weeks after my accuser.
You may ask why I did not give her a refund straight away. My reason is this. I was told she was happy with her purchase. In a previous email she even told me that that she "knew the bag to be authentic as the screwheads looked exactly the same as one she already owned. My accuser spend over £3000 on various designer handbags including the same model handbag I had sold her. Some of the items bought were replica.
Why would someone leave good feedback on Ebay if they believed their item was misrepresented? Why would my accuser ask me to do something that was illegal and then accuse me of the same thing?
At the time I sold the bag I believed it to be authentic. I have since found out that the person from whom I purchased the bag had been operating a rogue Ebay account and I can prove that she is still selling fake LV to other unsuspecting buyers.
The police have never been interested in this person.
In summing up the Judge's final word was that he could not understand why this case was taken through the criminal courts when it should have gone to a civil court.
Perhaps I would be in a better position if I had taken my accusers advice and sold the bag knowing it was a fake to the other highest bidder.
I have looked at the designer bags on Ebay and 95% of them are replica. Since my arrest I have done a lot of research on identifying replica handbags.
Ebay is not a safe . It was not a safe place for me to purchase or sell. I would warn anyone who uses Ebay to approach with caution.

Hi,

I agree with most of what you said save the last line "Ebay is a cool idea, but there's not enough margin for Ebay to verify the ligitimacy of everything auctioned. Be prepared to write off a certain amount of loss from Ebay transactions." I would remind you that eBay is a highly profitable business making in excess of 20% net profit per year - it is not really true to say that they don't have margin to do more to protect customers.

Hah! A couple years ago members of an email list I subscribe to noticed somebody was trying to sell something I own. I received several emails from the list inquiring about the sale, and in fact, if it was me selling it! The property was a uniquely customized version of a product.

After my own research (I'm a computer guy) it turned out the criminal was using both images and text from a website I use (a domain I've registerred) linked to his auction page. I investigated and found the seller had at least 4 auctions going in which he was advertising stuff s/he didn't own, with images and text linked from various websites. The seller probably was fraudulently auctioning other items under different Ebay member names.

As a non-Ebay member, it was entirely impossible for me to get the attention of anybody at Ebay. After I announced to my email list that my property was being sold fraudulently, I got the help of numerous list members who were also Ebay members pounding on Ebay trying to get the auction of my property cancelled. Luckily, the auction was cancelled a couple days before anybody actually paid for the unique item I own and wasn't trying to sell. I don't know if the seller was successful in getting money from fraudulent auctions he had at the time.

I checked various Internet security websites for weeks, and the Ebay site, hoping to see if this particular fraud might be announced. Nothing even close ever hit the Internet security news. You never hear about Ebay frauds and hacks. Hmm... Also, when my nephew's identity was stolen as an AOL member, that company never annouced a problem... Lucky, 2005 California laws will change such business's cavalier security attitudes after a couple multimillion dollar lawsuits.

My faith in ever doing business thru Ebay was shaken. I don't do business with any of those "auction" or similar websites because the businesses just can't check the millions of sellers. But, they're happy to take a little cut of the $$ :)

Ebay is useful for determining the "street price" of something you're interested in. That is, for the percentage of members who are foolish enough enough to trust they'll always get stuff they "buy". I don't have sufficient resources to expect a certain amount of loss as an Ebay member.

By the way, watch out for rediculously low prices for Macromedia products these days. Since Adobe bought Macromedia (Adobe's main competition), I've seen suspious auctions for Macromedia (Dreamweaver) products. But if you check the still running www.macromedia.com, you see the usual high prices for Macromedia's good products. The Ebay sellers have you download stuff from Macromedia, but the license (not a US or European license) provided by the seller may not work!!! And if it does, it could be the same license hundreds of others are using, and your program may stop working eventually due to Macromedia's piracy protections (which will also be used by Adobe).

Ebay is a cool idea, but there's not enough margin for Ebay to verify the ligitimacy of everything auctioned. Be prepared to write off a certain amount of loss from Ebay transactions.
