A Burnaby man is facing charges after border agents intercepted a stash of DVDs and videos depicting child pornography in a package sent from southeast Asia.

Burnaby RCMP say the contraband was discovered in a shipment supposedly carrying quilts, but concealed at the bottom of the box was a large number of videos.

Police confirmed that a 54-year-old Burnaby man was the intended recipient, and their investigation led to more materials stashed in a rented locker.

The videos show girls from seven to 17 years old in sexual acts. Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Pierre Lemaitre calls the contents "loathsome and unspeakable."

Police are working with a worldwide team fighting child exploitation to try to identify dozens of abuse victims from the tapes, probably from the Philippines and Thailand. They admit it's a monumental task.

"Yesterday there was a major news release from a U.S. law enforcement agency about 400 search warrants being executed in Switzerland in regards to child pornography," said Lemaitre.
