The Whitianga teenager at the centre of an international cyber crime ring will be sentenced in the High Court at Hamilton today.

Eighteen-year-old Owen Walker was arrested after an 18 month investigation by New Zealand, Dutch and American authorities.

He was at the centre of an investigation by the US Secret Service, the FBI, Dutch and New Zealand police for his part in computer hacking which caused the collapse of a computer server at the University of Pennsylvania.

Walker's bot code contained features that allowed it to automatically spread, to disable anti-virus software and destroy rival bot code.

The teen has admitted six computer crime charges including accessing a computer for dishonest purpose, possessing software for committing crime, damaging or interfering with a computer system and accessing a computer system without authorisation.
