It woiuld help to reduce ecrime if businesses that had an online presence understood what they must do to comply with the law and reduce their risk in relation to online fraud. The number of small businesses who use Web developers that are unaware of legislation and law as it applies to the Web leads to those businesses exposing themselves to a high degree of risk. Additionally many business do not understand they need a seperate merchant account for online trading and still use their CNP/Terminal account to process credit card orders opening themselves to potential liability and violation of the terms of their merchant account which in turn could lead to its withdrawl. An example of how few companies comply with basic elements of online legislation was highlighted by the Wales eCompliance Audit 2008, see http://www.theitc.co.uk/wales-web-use/
