A computer virus that has been spreading across the country has struck hard at an area outside of Washington, DC.

Authorities in Maryland, say a few hundred of its computers were affected by the virus.

In addition, county officials say they had to shut down thousands of other machines to keep them from being infected.

The virus, called Rinbot, disrupted operations at the Turner Broadcasting System last week. It also attacked computers at the The Boston Globe newspaper.
