Romanian phishing scams

Date: August 07, 2006

A Romanian phishing scam has caused more than 150 Trade Me users' accounts to be closed.

E-mails were sent out on Friday purporting to be from Trade Me, encouraging people to enter their user name and password on a linked site.

Mike O'Donnell from Trade Me says the Romanian phishers then attempted to take over the person's Trade Me identity to post fake auctions.

He says 153 people replied to the e-mail, but only three replies reached the spammer's site.

Mr O'Connell says Trade Me is aware of one fake auction being posted, and that has been closed.
