Lottery scam costs $3,000

A lottery scam reached the mailbox of a local man this week whose skepticism led him to check into an offer that seemed too good to be true.

The first thing Greg McDaniel of Marshalltown noticed when he opened the letter from the Royal Foundation Lotto that arrived Monday was a check for almost $3,000.

“I saw the check and thought, ‘That’s kind of nice,’ but then I started investigating it,” he said.
