The Foothills Park &Recreation District is working with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office to investigate the theft of information from the district's computer network by a hacker that could be used for identity theft.

The information includes credit card information for individuals who have registered for classes either online at www.ifoothills.org or at one of Foothills Park &Recreation District's facilities.

Foothills executive direcotr Ronald Hopp said additional security measures are being put in place and on-line registration won't be available until that is accomplished.

"It is very disturbing that despite the security measures that were in effect, a rogue hacker was still successful in obtaining this information," Hopp said.

Individuals whose information may have been accessed will be notified by the district directly, he said. Customers may also want to notify credit reporting agencies to put a fraud alert on their files.
