Police say Worley Dennis, a former elementary school teacher, used the internet to arrange a sexual encounter with a young girl. Sgt. Larry Crider, of the Wayne Co. Sheriff's Deparment said "In the course of his chat, his statements, some of them were very graphic, even though he believed he was talking to a 13-year-old girl. There was no doubt that the content of his conversation was highly sexual. He was hoping to meet this girl and go to a motel."

Police say a former elementary school teacher used the internet to arrange a sexual encounter with a young girl. Prosecutors charged that man in court Monday, and 7 Action News learned that he was convicted of a similar crime once before.

44-year-old Worley Dennis believed he was meeting a 14-year-old girl for sex Friday afternoon, but instead he was arrested by Wayne Co. sheriff's deputies.

The former Ann Arbor Elementary School teacher was charged Monday with three counts of illegal use of the internet.

Dennis had spent more than a month chatting online with sheriff's deputies, thinking he was talking to a 13-year-old girl.

Sgt. Larry Crider, of the Wayne Co. Sheriff's Dept., told 7 Action News, "In the course of his chat, his statements, some of them were very graphic, even though he believed he was talking to a 13-year-old girl. There was no doubt that the content of his conversation was highly sexual. He was hoping to meet this girl and go to a motel."

Bill Liczbinski, one of the Wayne Co. Sheriff's Deputies present at the arrest, told 7 Action News, "Ultimately, they're surprised. Usually remorseful. He didn't [say anything]. He just said that he was on his way to work. But I knew better."

Back in 2001, Dennis was put on the sex offender registry after charges that he fondled a 9-year-old girl. After a plea bargain, the criminal sexual conduct charge was reduced to assault and battery. He was put on probation.

Investigators are hopeful that this time, things will be different. Liczbinski explained, "I'm pretty confident that what we arrested him for will have him doing some time, as opposed to just simple probation"

Dennis is married with two children. He is only granted visitation rights with his children under supervision.
