The Computer Crimes Section detectives arrested a 45-year-old man on Sept. 2 for possession of child pornography. Suffolk police say Robert Allen of Centerreach used the Yahoo screen name Long_Island_Guy44 and chatted online with an undercover detective from the Monroe County Sheriffs Department that he believed to be a 14-year-old girl.

The conversations were sexually explicit and Allen chatted about meeting the girl for sex. Allen also chatted about other children that he was abusing and a group of adults that he associated with that also sexually abused children, cops say. Allen also masturbated via live web cam for the “girl.” Suffolk County police executed a search warrant at Allen’s home on Aug. 18 and seized several computers, a webcam and assorted peripherals.

A search of the computers revealed a collection of child pornography and other sexually explicit online chats that he was having with other children. The investigation into the identification of potential targets or victims of Allen is continuing. He is charged with attempted dissemination of indecent materials to minors and two counts of possession of a sexual performance of a child.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call Computer Crimes detectives at (631) 852-6279 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential. This investigation and online undercover investigations are continuing.
