ATHENS, Ga. — A former teacher has been charged with operating an Internet ring where members traded child pornography.

A Clarke County grand jury handed down the indictment Wednesday against 57-year-old Ronald Malcus James. James was charged on 26 counts of exploiting children after a Georgia Bureau of Investigation probe last year revealed the former Walton County teacher's computer held thousands of video and still images of children.

James was a literature teacher at Walton County Alternative School in Monroe when he was arrested at his Athens home in February 2007 for the pornography.

James is out of jail on $40,000 bond but is not allowed to have a computer or contact with children, including his own child.
