A Sewickley Township woman lost more than $1,000 to scammers after police say she responded to a bogus e-mail and released her debit card account number.

According to state police at Greensburg, the 37-year-old Hutchinson woman responded to a "spoof" e-mail that claimed to be sent from PayPal, an e-commerce business that allows payments to be made via the Internet to online vendors. She responded by giving the account number of her debit card, according to police.
