LOCAL business owners have been urged to make sure their computer security systems are up-to-date after a Lismore business lost tens of thousands of dollars in a high-tech Internet fraud.

Lismore police are refusing to name the business, exactly how much money was stolen, or how the fraud was carried out.

However, they did confirm that ‘tens of thousands of dollars’ disappeared from the company’s bank account on Monday.

Southern Cross University information security program manager Tim Lane, who has just completed his research masters degree on information security, says business owners and home computer users should be aware all types of Internet fraud are on the rise.
