A criminal case was filed against a Moscow resident suspected of fraud with the help of Webmoney Internet payment cards. The suspect has allegedly stolen about $1.5 million of Internet USD.

Officers found out that the man illegally obtained activation codes of several Webmoney cards and attempted to use them to transfer money to his own account, reported Novosti, a Russian information agency on Tuesday.

Police searched his house and found paper sheets with printed activation codes.

Webmoney is Russian online payment system akin to PayPal or 2Checkout. Webmoney users can pay for web services or transfer money to another accounts. Plastic cards with activation codes which are hidden under a protective layer are used to cash webmoney.
