Nearly 700 hacker attacks were registered, targeting the polling system of Information Services (IS) during European parliament (MEP) elections in Bulgaria, IS managing director Alexander Vitanov said.

IS was the company responsible for counting the votes in the elections, Dnevnik daily reported.

The attempts for entering the system were not serious and they failed to break its protection, Vitanov said.

Hacker actions were fewer than those during the presidential elections, when their number reached 5000. Vitanov said that the bad weather conditions on the election date caused large communication breakdowns, which affected northern Bulgaria.

IS has processed almost the entire information from the elections. The lists from the regional election committees will be inspected once again and final results will be ready within 30 to 40 days, Central Election Commission said.
