An internet scam artist who gloated that he would never be caught for cheating car enthusiasts out of tens of thousands of dollars has been nabbed, police said Thursday.

If convicted of fraud, the Singaporean, who used the alias Jude Tan, faces up to seven years in jail and a fine. His real identity was withheld.

Police would not disclose how he was identified and captured.

The 24-year-old was reported to have covered his tracks by operating from internet cafes in October and by using a cyber- currency thought to be untraceable.

The com man offered heavily discounted car parts on internet car forums. More than a dozen people paid for goods that were never received.
