computer crime CHENNAI: Seven police personnel were honoured for their exemplary performance in ensuring social justice by the Social Justice CID wing of the Tamil Nadu Police here on Friday.

The awardees included Nilgiris District SP Bala Naga Devi, Namakkal District SP Jayaram, Kallakurichi Sub-Division DSP Jayabalan, Tiruchengode DSP Pon Chandrasekaran, Chennai Cyber Crime ACP Ayyachamy, Cuddalore Control Room Inspector Gangappan and Arni Inspector Pon Jayaraman.

Speaking on the occasion, ADGP (Social Justice Wing) A X Alexander said DSP Ayyachamy, DSP Jayabalan and Inspector Gangappan, during their earlier stint in Villupuram district, were awarded for solving a problem regarding the right of a particular community to offer prayers at Veerabayangaram village in Villupuram district.

The traditional owners of Iyyanar temple at the village did not permit members of a particular community to offer worship there. There were disputes and litigations in this regard. The team, by their persuasive skills, brought about a change in the attitude of the communities concerned and thereby solved a decade-long problem, Alexander said.

DSP Ayyachamy and Inspector U Gangappan were at their best for a second time. The duo opened up a newly-built government school at Brammagundram village in Villupuram district that was kept closed and unoccupied for the last five years. This was because the school happened to be at the other end of a road where a particular community lived.

People of a particular community were not willing to send their children to the new building as their children had to pass through that street. A few even stopped sending their wards to the school and arranged for private tuitions.

The two cops invited the elders of both the communities, held talks and solved the problem. Since then, the children were happily attending school.

Similarly, Bala Naga Devi, during her earlier stint as SP of Tiruvannamalai district, solved a long-standing problem relating to a pathway to the cremation ground.

Two communities were at loggerheads claiming right to the pathway to the cremation ground at Pulavanpadi in Tiruvannamalai district. There had been several clashes and rioting between the communities. Every death was a potential law and order problem, said ADGP Alexander.

Bala Naga Devi, along with Inspector Pon Jayaraman, met the elders and the district Collector and got a new stretch of passage to the cremation ground and thus solved the problem.

Jayaram, during his earlier posting as Namakkal SP, solved a similar problem and allowed dead bodies to be taken to the burial ground along a particular route. He was assisted by DSP Pon Chnadrasekaran.

Of the awardees, Jayabalan, Gangappan and Jayaraman were also given Rs 1,000. ADGP Alexander welcomed the gathering and DGP I K Govind proposed the vote of thanks.
