Stop Cyber Crime MARION — Erased school records might give a Marion High School student a criminal one.
Clint W. Triou, 17, of 4781 Steel Point Road, Marion, Wayne County has been charged with one count of computer trespass, a Class E felony, and one count of fourth-degree computer tampering, a Class A misdemeanor, in relation to the hacking of the school district’s computer system on Friday.
State Police in Williamson arrested Triou on Saturday. The arrest was announced late Tuesday.

Triou, a student at Marion High School, was charged with hacking into the school district’s computer system and erasing the files of almost the entire 88-member junior class.
The files contained student names and student-created classwork.
The hacking incident was traced to a computer within the school.
School officials discovered the incident on Friday when a teacher had problems using the system.
“The investigation is ongoing,” said George Worthington, director of computer services with the district, Monday. “We don’t know exactly when the files were deleted.” The district reported that no student grades, addresses, disciplinary records or secure files were accessed.

Kathy Weman, the district’s assistant superintendent, said that the district was able to retrieve “almost all” of the files that were accessed.

“The student is going to get disciplined according to school policy,” she said. “We’ll proceed separately from the police investigation.”

The school district declined Wednesday to comment further on the case.
Triou was processed at the State Police Barracks in Williamson, Wayne County, and subsequently issued an appearance ticket for town of Marion Court.

“The penalties could range anywhere from a youthful offender status and probation to state jail time,” said Investigator Randy Newcomb of the State Police cyber terrorism unit.

Newcomb and Robert Klinkman of the Williamson Barracks led the State Police investigation.
