Eldon Teen Arrested for Computer Fraud

(by Stephanie Davis)

A mid-Missouri teen faces 25 years in prison for Internet fraud.

Attorney General Jay Nixon and the Miller County prosecutor said 18-year-old Joseph Merkle of Eldon began advertising computers and computer equipment for sale on the Internet in January 2002.

Merkle allegedly told customers to wire him money but never sent them their purchases.

Merkle faces five charges of consumer fraud and is currently being held in the Miller County Jail on more than $41,000 bond.
