Ukraine: Security Service disclosed an unauthorized access to police data base

Officers of counterintelligence information security unit of the Counterintelligence department and their colleagues of the regional Security Service department have discovered a channel of unauthorized access to the data base of traffic police.

A company made contact on maintenance of the computer network in one of the regional traffic police departments and performed works according to it. They abused trust of police and obtained access to information of the regional integrated information system on vehicles (models, body and engine numbers) and also data on their owners. They connected to the server of the automated system of the traffic police regional department without right and scanned the information directly from the house of the owner of the company.

The copying have been performed starting January and ending in August 2004. The company also installed similar networks in ten another regional traffic police departments.

Presently, Security Service officers are going into details of the case of information leakage. A criminal case was instigated by an investigative department of the regional Security Service agency. A criminal investigation is being carried out.
