Spyware are not widely understood

Various types of online threats such as spyware are not widely understood by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

According to research by Get Safe Online, 44 per cent of small firms in the UK have fallen victim to cyber crimes such as data theft and identity fraud, with many suffering a computer virus and phishing attacks.

However, many are not doing all they can in terms of security.

"Over 90 per cent of small businesses now have got firewalls and anti-virus but not so many have got anti-spyware," said Get Safe Online's Tony Neate.
