Watching the pitiful parade of would-be predators rushing into traps laid by investigative reporters piqued the curiosity of Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson.

"Right here in Mississippi, do we have that problem? Let's find out," Johnson told himself after viewing an episode of "Dateline NBC: To Catch a Predator."

His department created online decoys of an "innocent" 14-year-old girl and a "sassy" 15-year-old girl. Within six minutes of the decoys going online in a chat room, there were 50 hits, many of them from adult men, Johnson said.
