A California woman was allegedly bilked out of about $2,000 by a Village of Pewaukee woman who said her mother was terminally ill and then allegedly faked her own death.
According to an affidavit filed in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Monday, Lenora Poole of San Diego called Pewaukee police Nov. 20 to check on the well-being of a resident that lives on Meadowcreek Drive.

Poole told police she had met a friend over the Internet, named Kelly Morgan. Poole "was extremely distraught and crying and stated that she had learned that the Kelly Morgan subject had died in a motor vehicle collision on Highway 41," the affidavit said.

Poole said she had become close to Morgan over the Internet and they would call, send e-mails or text message each other five or six times a day.
