DECATUR - Acting on a tip-off, Decatur police arrested a 40-year-old man after allegedly discovering his computer held movie files of child pornography.

Police had visited the man's home in the 1500 block of East Lawrence Street on Nov. 24 after receiving the anonymous tip. In a sworn statement, Detective Jeremy Welker said the suspect had consented to a search of two computers in the home.

"He made the statement there would be images of child pornography on his computers," Welker said in a sworn statement. "But he stated that it had been 'sent' to him and that he had not been looking for images of this nature."

Police allegedly later found seven movie files of "identified child pornography" on the two computers. They also found numerous other files whose titles were suggestive of child pornography but turned out to be adult pornography instead.

When the suspect showed up at Decatur police headquarters on Friday to speak to Welker, he "stated he was not going to make any statements until he spoke with an attorney", Welker said. "At this point he was advised that he was under arrest for the offense of child pornography."
