Why aren't libido inhibitors (chemical castration) brought up as a possible solution or even an option for perpetrators and law enforcement?
I am really surprised some drug company hasn't taken the lead on this.
This treatment might be a voluntary option for most perpetrators. It would certainly be more practical cheaper and safer for everyone.

These men are often victims of their own sexual urges. If even religious priests can't help themselves- what chance do you give any of the rest? Many of these guys would like a chance to live normal lives but even they don't trust themselves around children.
I think it is crazy we don't bring libido inhibitors up as a possible tool in fighting this crime. Especially when reports of child rape, molestation & murder have risen over four hundred percent in just the past twenty years.

ALL CHILD MOLESTERS SHOULD RECEIVE MANDATORY LIFE SENTENCES WITHOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF PAROLE.

Any one who is against harsher punishments for child molesters or against a registry is surley an offender themselves. Who else in the world would want to secretly live next to a child molester. they watch your children every day. Every single day they walk to school or to the park. They are watched. They dont deserve the rights that they are born with. Castration should be approved by every state.

THIS MURDER IN MAINE HAS LED TO SEX OFFENDERS STATING THEY ARE FEARFUL FOR THEIR LIVES BECAUSE THIS MAN GOT THEIR NAMES FROM A SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY. CALLING FOR SEX OFFENDERS TO TRY TO GET THIS LIST BANISHED. WHILE I AGREE THAT CERTAIN CRIMES DO NOT NEED A REGISTRATION, WE CAN PICK OUT WHICH CRIMES TARGET AND HURT YOUNG CHILDREN SPECIFICALLY, AND FOR THOSE PEOPLE I FEEL NO SORROW. LET THEM BE AFRAID . LET THEM FEEL THE WAY THEY HAVE MADE ANOTHER CHILD OR PERSON FEEL, LET THEM BE AFRAID, THEY SHOULD BE AFRAID , DO YOU THINK THEIR VICTIMS ARE NOT AFRAID EVERY DAY ? PERHAPS THE FEAR OF BEING ATTACKED WILL KEEP SOME PEOPLE FROM COMMITTING THIS CRIME. EVEN PRISONERS HATE SEX OFFENDERS.

One offense is more than enough. No one no matter what the circumstance should be given a second chance. A second chance for what?? To hurt another child? There is no treatment for trash like this. I would never trust anyone of these offenders around an adult let alone a child. It is our job as mothers, fathers, etc. to protect our child!!

Sentencing should be done on a case by case basis. There certainly should be a section of law that is not as harsh of a sentence, that would apply to an immature college student who still lives with parents, is loved by anyone who has ever known him. He makes a grave mistake and has a first and only offense, which is a computer crime for attempting to possess free images that ended up being younger than him through P2P - It is heartbreaking to see this fine young man who knows he made a stupid mistake to be condemed for ten years - now it is twenty years - Because of this delicate subject - no one will re-consider this harsh and unfair judgement that has fallen on him. He can not appeal because he was talked into taking a plea bargin and has lost his right to appeal. His mom has been unable to find even one case that is like her sons.

I think you all have the right idea. I.m a student who is trying to reasearch a way to pass a bill about harsher punishments for sex offenders. I Belive that sex offenders who are convicted of a crime against children twice should be 1.) castrated and 2.) put into a physcic hospital that specializes in correcting that problem. It's not right what they do to children!

I'm very proud of our governor. I think this is a step closer to knowing as much as we can about the horrid human beings that hurt our precious children. I am the mother of 2 four year olds, I thank you Governor Bush.

If this nation continues on the course it has decided is approprite for one group, all groups will suffer. The registry for sex offenders in general, is the first of many lists that will be developed to keep citizens in line.
If you do not believe me, just look at the history of other nations that have singeled out a small group as undesirable. In recent history, it led to concentration camps in Germany and Gulags in the Soviet Union. Both were countries whose lofty ideals were for the "good" people.
So, remember when you say it is a good thing, you are only one inch away from being a target. With over 250,000 laws currently on the books, you have broken at least one and could very well end up on the next registry.
Let logic take the place of hysteria.

I challenge our government at all levels to put your money where your mouth is. The Federal Government has come up with a plan to help offenders to reenter society. They offer tax incentives for those companies who will hire someone with a criminal past. Our government needs to take the lead in this and do what they are trying to pay others to do. Hire these people, especially sex offenders.
Housing is another huge issue for sex offenders. They are required to register their address yet many are not allowed to establish a home. Someone with a place to live is going to have the landlord, water department, electric and gas companies all looking to him for payment. Most of us know what it is like to be tied to monthly bills and someone would take notice if payments are not made. If a former offender is tied down to a job, a mortgage, a wife and a couple of kids, it would be almost impossible for that person to vanish.
With these things in mind, why would anyone want to make vagrants out of former offenders? It is impossible for former offenders to register when their home is under a bridge and there is no income to pay the various fees.
According to the Justice Department figures, the recidivism rate for sex offenders is 5.3% in contrast to a 60% recidivism rate for other crimes. To make the math simpler we will up that figure to 6%. Think about what that means!
Out of 100 arrests for sex crimes, only 6 will have previously offended. Where do the other 94 come from? They come from your house, my house and your neighbor’s house. This figure proves that the probability of your child becoming a sex offender is many times greater than the chance of being assaulted by a former offender. The day could easily come when offender and victim are both living in your home. The harsher sentences you are clamoring for today may come back to haunt you tomorrow.
Society screams about ridding the world of sex offenders. If we use the inflated numbers spouted by politicians our population would be cut in half. Does that thought concern anyone? The problem has existed since the beginning of time and will still exist tomorrow regardless of how many laws are put on the books.
I challenge our government on any and all levels to do away with the draconian laws that have divided our country and turned us into something remarkably like Nazi, Germany. How many of our unemployed are totally unemployable and will remain so for the rest of their lives? That number increases daily as we go about registering and tracking citizens. The right to work is a fundamental right. How dare we shut people out of the work place and force generations of families to live in poverty!
This is America! It is time we started acting like Americans. Citizens who are fearful of sex offenders need to change places with our troops in Iraq and learn the true meaning of fear. Try fighting that battle with petitions, shunning, passing out fliers and taking names for a registry. A quick learner could get an education in pettiness. After dealing with bombs and shredded bodies, a returning soldier is not likely to be intimidated by a former sex offender in the neighborhood.

Overall crime rates are down. However, the registry has nothing to do with it. Overall, recidivism rates for all sex offenders were placed at 5.3% by the United States Department of Justice. In all probability, they are the same today. Therefore, I challenge any state, county or even a city to turn the registry off and see what changes. Unless it is staged to reflect otherwise, there will be no increase in recidivism and the hysteria will decrease.
Most current sex offender treatment programs are run by individuals with their own agenda in life. These programs do not focus on an offender’s reentry into society. Authorities are not concerned with results. This is nothing more than a power play to keep the offender whipped into line.

The required fee averages $50 a week. In return for that fee offenders are told time and time again that they are subhuman. After years of being told they have a status lower than a stray dog, the offender is allowed to graduate. I challenge the government, on any and all levels, to explain to me why we turn humans into animals. The reasoning behind this escapes me.
If results were important, we have many good psychiatrists and psychologists all across the nation. They give total mental health care. They work to get to the root of the problem, and have many tests that identify personality disorders. A professional who works with the offender would be capable of making a determination on future dangerousness. Let's stop this nonsense of having a "paid expert" talk to an offender for 10 minutes and give testimony geared toward whoever is picking up the tab. Expert opinions are a valuable tool if there is personal knowledge of the subject on which to base an opinion.
Our goal should be to weed out the few dangerous offenders. The rest should get proper treatment in order to return to society as mentally healthy individuals. Is not this what we want to achieve?
I challenge any state, county or city to discontinue traditional sex offender treatment programs and turn to overall mental health care. If the root of the problem is taken care of, a former offender will become an asset to the community.
Our government spends billions on various treatment plans but pays nothing for the treatment of sex offenders. That seems rather odd considering nobody is hiding their kids from drug dealers or paying them to move out of a community. Why is the non-violent sex offender head and shoulders above everyone else on the list of those who are a danger to our children and community?
A young person gets something on his record and it destroys any dreams of a military career. Foreign soldiers who fight for our country are given automatic citizenships. A young American who wants to fight for his country should be allowed to do so. Furthermore, any prior criminal history should be expunged, as in the past.
