The homes of three police officers have been raided in a child porn swoop, it was confirmed today.

Northumbria Police said one of its officers – a 41-year-old constable – had been arrested and later bailed over material found on his home computer.

In total three officers had their homes searched and computer equipment examined by force colleagues.

The police raids were made following allegations over their involvement with internet paedophilia.

Two homes in Gateshead and one in South Tyneside were searched after warrants were issued against all three just days before Christmas.

Investigating officers seized thousands of pounds worth of computer equipment and disks from the properties.

A Northumbria Police spokesman confirmed that one officer had been arrested and was currently suspended from his duties.

“As a result of information received, searches were carried out at three police officers’ homes in the Gateshead and South Tyneside areas,” he said.

“A 41-year-old officer living in Birtley in Gateshead was arrested and bailed in connection with computer material found at his house.

“The officer has also been suspended from duties.

“No-one else has been arrested and no other officers have been suspended. Inquiries are ongoing.”
