A Georgia man will appear in a Harrisonburg court next week on charges he scammed $450,000 from an elderly area resident.

Bennie Robert Moore Jr., 67, of Austell, Ga., who court records say is an Internet business owner, faces two felony counts of obtaining money by false pretenses.

Prosecutors allege that Moore swindled a Harrisonburg man by offering an investment opportunity that wasn’t going to deliver. Of the $450,000 the alleged victim of the scam invested with Moore, only $10,000 has been repaid, officials say.

Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Louis Nagy wouldn’t describe the scam in detail but said the victim wrote Moore two checks — one for $200,000 and another for $250,000.
