Peorian gets prison for computer crime

PEORIA - A former Midstate College instructor was sentenced Friday to just shy of five years in prison for trying to solicit sex from a person he thought was a 15-year-old girl last year.
Joshua Parrott, 31, of 3315 N. Brook Lane also must pay $750 to the city of Peoria to cover the cost of the investigation.
Parrott apologized and told Chief U.S. District Judge Joe B. McDade that he suffered from a sexual addiction. He asked to be sent to a federal prison in North Carolina that treats sex addicts.
The 57-month prison sentence handed down was at the bottom of Parrott's sentencing range.
In May, Parrott waived indictment by a federal grand jury and pleaded guilty to one count of using the Internet to persuade a minor to have sex with him.
A Peoria police detective working with the U.S. Attorney's Central Illinois Cybercrime Unit posed as a 15-year-old in an Internet chat room and arranged to meet Parrott on Dec. 3 in the Club Horizon parking lot, 3300 W. Willow Knolls Drive, where he was arrested.
Parrott originally was charged in Peoria County Circuit Court with indecent solicitation of a child, but those charges were later dropped.
